SES on display for you

Kalamunda SES volunteers will present a display at the 2008 ZigZag Festival in Stirk Park, Kalamunda on Sunday 26 October.

Local Unit Manager, John White, said "the festival is an ideal place for its members to meet and talk with people in a non-emergency setting".

“Too often our only contact is during a storm when we're busy clearing trees from roofs and fitting tarpaulins,” Mr White said.

“This will give people a chance to chat to our volunteers and get helpful information about what to do during an emergency.”

Being a SES volunteer is a great way to give something back to the community, learn a variety of new skills and work with a group of like-minded and dedicated people.

“The training arms you with real life skills that you will use during emergencies, and knowledge that will stick with you through life,” he said.

“Your basic training will cover things like first aid, search and rescue, map reading and vehicle and equipment operation."

“Specialist training gives you the skills you will need for land and air searches, team leadership and incident control.”
