Kalamunda Youth Band Night is an initiative of Zig Zag Community Arts for young musicians.

The Youth Band Night events give musicians the chance to perform their music in a small venue, with support from peers and experienced musicians; lighting, PA, mixer, and vocal mics provided.

Some of the acts that started here have gone on to serious careers in the music industry.  The Violet Flames performed at YBN and now the band is in Melbourne, performing mainstream gigs.

Youth Band Night has been a regular fixture in Kalamunda during School Holidays since 2007.  Attendance fluctuated, but the number of bands interested had been steady while maintaining the intimate feel.

Since 2008 Armadale Youth Resources has partnered with Zig Zag Community Arts to organise and host the gigs, but they were forced to close down in late 2010.

In 2011 Zig Zag Community Arts has suspended the Kalamunda Youth Band Night school holiday program.  Since Kalamunda Shire initiated the KalaKranks program in 2009 with a larger venue and budget there is already one active program operating in the area.

The future:

We still plan to audition local youth bands for the Youth Stage at this year's Zig Zag Festival, and if plans are successful, a Showcase Youth Band Night concert will take place later in the year.

We look forward to re-establishing the program and people interested in assisting us with that goal should contact us:
