ZIG ZAG FESTIVAL AND THE HEDGE BANDITS

Youth Project

Zig Zag Community Arts is gearing up for another great Zig Zag Festival this year! Smarter Than Smoking, Healthway and the Heart Foundation One of the exciting youth programs we are running before the Festival is the ‘Smarter Than Smoking Zig Zag Hedge Bandits Junk Music Project ’.

The typical Hedge Bandits Junkadelic Collective line-up includes an array of home made junk horns, Tri-tonal 19 litre Waterbottles, bin Bass Drum, Tin Can Shakers, Frying Pans/Pot cymbals and a varied assortment of other "found objects".

Added to this are thought provoking verses, singa-a-long choruses and funky chants.

The Zig Zag series of 7 workshops for young people from 8-18 will show young people how to make junk horns and percussion instruments from recycled materials and then how to play some original Hedge Bandits songs and rhythms.

Ken Allen of ‘Junkadelic’ fame will coordinate the workshops assisted by Paul Hood the percussion master and by the talented musician and composer James Gentle.  The workshop participants or the ‘Hedge Bandits Kids’ will then perform in the Zig Zag Festival Parade and on stage at the Zig Zag Festival Finale on Sunday, October 26th.

Workshops will be held during the October school holidays

at Zig Zag Headquarters at 11 Headingly Road, Kalamunda - next to Stirk Park

The project is supported by the Healthway Smarter Than Smoking initiative and will give young participants a great opportunity to work with a very creative crew to explore the art of instrument and music making.  This is sure to be another fun filled Zig Zag Festival experience, to register your interest please call
